This pair of original charcoal sketches depicts Jonah and Martha Veit performers from the 1922 Oberammergau Passion Play, a world-famous event in Bavaria, Germany, that has been staged nearly every decade since 1634.

The Female portrait depicts Martha Veit, an actress from the Bavarian village of Oberammergau, who performed as the Virgin Mary in the world-renowned Oberammergau Passion Play in 1922
