Mackenzie Thorpe (b. 1956) — signed limited edition print, monochrome 65cmWx50cmH
A lone figure stands in an empty expanse of light, a telegraph pole leaning in from the left and a long shadow drawing away behind him toward a wall of absolute black. Rendered entirely in tones of grey and charcoal, the composition is stripped back to its minimum. The figure is small against it all walking away from the light towards the black wall.
Where much of Thorpe's work shouts out in saturated colour, this piece works in near-silence. The tonal restraint concentrates everything on mood: solitude rather than loneliness, endurance rather than defeat.
Presented in a contemporary silver gilt wood frame flecked with black with a double cream mount, pencil-signed by the artist in the lower right margin and numbered
Limited edition print, signed. 217/850 Gallery Stamp; Washington Green
